A documentary “Way to the spring” by a 4th year student of the Faculty of Journalism of Voronezh State University, Dmitry Sterlikov, supervised by A.M. Shesterinа, won the 5th open competition of child and youth cinematography “Kinovertikal”, financed by the President's grant aimed at the development of civil society.
The jury of the competition included well-known film directors and actors. The president of the festival is Garri Bardin, a Russian animation director, a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation and the Triumf Awards five-time winner of the Nika Award, and a prize winner of the Cannes Film Festival.
This year the total number of films submitted for the competition was 2,155. The shortlist included 196 films. The competition was the key event of a large project “Minor cinema – great future” which won one of the largest President's grants aimed at “Support of cultural and artistic projects”. Dmitry Sterlikov became the winner in the nomination “My small motherland”, where the participants demonstrated films about the cultural heritage of their homeland, its natural resources, history, tourist attractions, and local people.
“In my film I wanted to attract attention to the problem of conservation of the rich natural resources our homeland gives us, said Dmitry. This film is like a trip. A trip to the springs of the Voronezh Region. But in fact, it is a trip to our own roots”.
Next year Dmitry Sterlikov will take part in the festival as a member of the jury.
