The team “Rubikon” consisting of students from Voronezh State University and Voronezh State Technical University shared first place at the National Tournament of Physicists with the team “Experience” from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Second place was shared by the team “Fraktal” from Northern (Arctic) Federal University and the team of South Ural State University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Third place was shared by the teams from Penza State University, the Higher School of Economics, and Moscow State University.
The tournament included a series of “physics battles” where teams were to develop solutions to complicated scientific problems and present them to the other participants and the jury. Each battle was organised as follows: the reporting team was to suggest a solution, while the task of the opponent team was to find the weak points in the suggested solution and comment on them. There was also the reviewer team whose task was to moderate the battle and assess the reporter and the opponent. Each team had to perform all the three roles.
The Student Tournament of Physicists is a team competition for students. The participants of the tournament are required to use their knowledge and creativity to solve practical science problems and then justify their decisions and solutions via scientific debate - the Physics Battles. The tournament is held annually and gives students a chance to compete in the quality of their research and their work as opponents and reviewers. It is not the first time our team will represent Russia at the international level. In 2017, the team “Rubikon” won the tournament and obtained the right to represent our country at the International Student Tournament of Physicists.
