The competition “Youth Leader of the Year” was held for the third time. The goal of the event is to give public and state recognition of personal contributions of young people to the development and formation of civil society and to improve the image of the Voronezh region as a region with human resources of high potential.
Olesya Astafurova, a student from the Faculty of History of Voronezh State University, became a finalist of the competition. She took third place. Olesya is the head of the project “Open Media School” and a press secretary of the Youth Government.
“My victory is the result of 4 years of work. I have been actively involved in the unversity's social life since I was in the second year. Then I became a reporter of the students’ magazine “UniverCITY” and a volunteer of the project “Spring Media School”. The same year, I headed the “Scanner” newspaper at the Faculty of History , said Olesya Astafurova. “The next important stage of my career was when I joined the Youth Government of the Voronezh region where I have been working for a number of years. I learned a lot of skills and gained a lot of experience there. Then I decided to take some responsibility and extend the project “Spring Media School” and make it year-round. So now it is called the “Open Media School” where a team of experts and practising journalists share their experience with the participants of the school and teach them to be up-to date on the media scene. One of our main tasks today is to provide the students of the media school with opportunities to practice their skills. For example, they can participate in other social projects where they can develop social networks and expand relations with the media.
