The award ceremony “Leader of the Year – 2018” took place in Voronezh. The event was held for the tenth time. It was organised by the Gubernia television company with the help of the Government of the Voronezh Region and with the personal contribution of the governor. Among the winners of the competition were representatives of Voronezh State University. Dmitry Kouda, research assistant at the Department of Solid-State Physics and Nanostructures of the Faculty of Physics, received a prize for the “Future Potential” nomination. Oleg Ovchinnikov, the Head of the Department of Optics and Spectroscopy of the Faculty of Physics, was awarded for the “Science” nomination.

The master of the ceremony was Vladimir Molchanov, TV presenter and screen writer, a prize winner of Chicago International Television Festival, member of the Russian television academy, and the laureate of the TEFI award. The invited guest was Dina Garipova, the winner of the TV show “Voice”, who sang the anthem of the Russian Federation.

Among the participants of the ceremony were the governor of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, and the Vice Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexey Gordeyev.

“Today, we are here to honour the winners of the contest “Leader of the Year”. Thanks to their talents and bravery these people are respected by all the citizens of the Voronezh region. There are a lot of nominations and all the winners are people of merit. This year, the contest “Leader of the Year” celebrates its tenth anniversary and we remember that it was initiated by Alexey Gordeyev,” said Alexander Gusev in his welcoming speech.

Alexey Gordeyev thanked the participants of the award ceremony for their contribution to the development of the Voronezh region.

“It’s always exciting for me to come to the Voronezh region. This land is dear to me. Here I see a lot of kind, familiar, and dear faces. I am very happy to see the Voronezh region develop and play an important role at the federal level. And the reason for this is not the economic numbers but the atmosphere that you create. The tradition of honouring leaders contributes to the success of Voronezh society,” said Alexey Gordeyev.

“My victory is the result of many years of my activities aimed at the popularisation of natural and technical sciences. I would like to thank the expert committee for their appreciation. I was first nominated for the award 4 years ago, in 2014. But I did not win then. It must have been a sign that I needed to work more to be worthy of the prize. I think this award is the most honourable one among all the awards I have ever received,” said Dmitry Kouda.
