On 5 and 6 October, the championship of the Voronezh region in snowless disciplines of sleddog racing “The Star of the Central Black Earth Region 2019” took place in the park “Yamensky”. Over 90 athletes from different parts of Russia took part in the event. Among the participants was Dmitry Stegantsov, the leading engineer of the Internet centre of Voronezh State University, who has been doing this sport for 4 years and is a candidate master of sports.
Dmitry competed in three disciplines: “Bike 1 dog men”, “Scooter 1 dog men”, and “Bike 2 dogs”.
He won the fastest and the most dynamic discipline “Bike 1 dog men” and became the champion of the Voronezh region. He also came second in the discipline “Scooter 1 dog men” in the overall competition and took first place in the competition between northern sledding breeds. He was second in the discipline “Bike 2 dogs”. What is more, he took part in a medley relay that consisted of three laps: canicross (running with a dog), scooter, and a bicycle.
Following the results of the competition, Dmitry was able to join the team which will represent the Voronezh region in the major national competitions.

Sleddog sport is racing with sleddogs. Athletes use special gear and sled dogs who are a part of the team to compete on a snow or ground track. Depending on the season, they can use a sledge, skis, pulk (sledge drag) on a snow track, and a kart, scooter, or a bike on a ground track.
