Between 27 and 29 November, the Head of the Department of Slavic Literature at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Professor Matthias Freise, gave a series of lectures dedicated to contemporary methodology for studying literary texts. The event was organised by the Faculty of Philology of Voronezh State University.
The key topic of the course was semantic space, its formation and dimensions. In his first lecture, Professor Freise provided an impressive analysis of the first chapter of the Book of Genesis to demonstrate the ideas. The four dimensions of the semantic space include the four aesthetic functions: equivalence, eventivity, interference, and rhetoric. Their functioning was explained through an interpretation of Ivan Turgenev’s story “Asya”.
