On 14 January, a ceremony of delivery of geotechnical equipment to the Department of Geohydrology, Geological Engineering, and Ecological Geology took place in the main university building. Small innovative business Akma-Universal donated a test system ASIS to the university. The event was supported by the VSU Innovation Business Incubator.
“This system is used to determine physical and mechanical properties of subsoils. These properties are used to calculate the stability of constructions at the stage of projecting and building. There are only two or three other laboratories that have similar equipment in our city. We want our students to be able to use modern equipment,” said Nikolay Korabelnikov, the Director of Akma-Universal and the assistant at the Department of Geohydrology, Geological Engineering, and Ecological Geology.
“The research conducted at the Faculty of Geology is characterised by a high level of materials consumption. It requires specific equipment. I am sure that this system will allow us to expand the scope of educational tasks and research projects,” said Oleg Kozaderov, Vice Rector for Research and Innovations.
According to Viktor Bocharov, the Head of the Department of Geohydrology, Geological Engineering, and Ecological Geology, the equipment will lead the students and the staff of the faculty to a breakthrough:
“At our faculty, Nikolay Korabelnikov teaches a course dedicated to soil mechanics. He sets the engineering trends at the department. I have only seen similar equipment in three universities in Russia. It means we are now leading engineering training in the Central Black Earth Region. The new equipment will help us raise educational standards at our university.”
