Between 13 and 14 March, a long-awaited meeting with a well-known interpreter Pavel Palazhenko took place at the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology of Voronezh State University. It was the second visit of the press secretary of the Gorbachev Foundation to the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology which was organised with the support of the administration of the faculty and the Department of Translation and Professional Communication. The event was initiated by Associate Professor Natalia Karavaeva. The meeting was held within the regular seminar “Discourse. Interpretation. Translation.”
During the first day of the event, students and lecturers from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, the Faculty of International Relations, and the lecturers from Zhukovsky and Gagarin Air Force Academy listened to the lecture “Interlinguistic comparison and translation” and attended a practical seminar for students from the Department of Translation and Professional Communication. Fourth year students took an active part in the master class in synchronous interpreting held by Pavel Palazhenko. Just like the previous time, the students coped very well with the tasks and got valuable comments regarding their performance.
On 14 March, a public lecture “Nuclear disarmament negotiations (1981–1991) through the eyes of a participant” was held in the main building of VSU. It attracted a large audience, including lecturers from different faculties and students, primarily from the Department of International Relations. The lecture was accompanied by interesting photos and commentaries. We hope that there will be more meetings with the master of interpreting and the next year, our students will have a chance to take part in another “Palazhenko’s workshop”.
