The Kayros publishing house (Budapest) has released the multi-authored monograph “Culture in a Digital Society” which consists of articles by several European scientists. The book also includes the article “A book for the generation of “digital children”” by Tamara Diakova, DSc in Cultural Studies, a Professor from the Department of History of Philosophy and Culture of Voronezh State University.

In her work, the author studies a cultural paradox: the children and teenagers of today tend to be highly tech-savvy and disconcertingly shallow-brained at the same time. According to Tamara Diakova, the phenomenon can be explained by the fact that today adolescences interact with a screen rather than with printed text. The professor believes that “”electronic” culture is characterised by fragmentary and mosaic thinking and imposed and cloned visual images”. She also tries to provide an answer to the question: “How can we cope with this paradox?”

The monograph focuses on a very pressing problem as during the lockdown, which the largest part of the world population experienced this year, the application of digital platforms skyrocketed. Therefore, the attempt of the authors to bring together this communication approach and educational goals is particularly noteworthy.

The multi-authored monograph “Culture in Digital Society” was published in the framework of the international research project “Cultural Hygiene”.
