Between 22 and 26 March, an international interdisciplinary intensive course “Safety in an unstable world” was held at Voronezh State University. It was held as part of a research project called “POWERS – Peace and War in European Security Challenges”. The event was held online in Zoom and gathered over 130 students from 15 universities of Russia, Italy, Turkey, Spain, Hungary, and Australia.
It was an intensive course: five days, six hours a day. Researchers from leading universities in the field of international security led discussions with students and young scientists touching upon a wide range of issues, from a review of global threats to the problems of ethnic conflicts, migration, human rights, and cyber security.
Among the speakers were representatives of VSU partner universities from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Jordan, Malta, and Russia, as well as external experts. Lectures were given by Zaid Eyadat, Director of the Centre for strategic studies in the University of Jordan, Alexey Gromyko, Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Paolo Bargiacchi, Professor of International Law from the Kore University of Enna, Giovanni Finizio, Professor of the Department of Politics and Society from the University of Turin, Irina Foret, Associate Professor from VSU, and others.
At the end of the event, students received their certificates proving that they have completed the course. The participants highly praised the organisation of the event, mentioning the professionalism of the lecturers, the relevance and urgency of the discussed topics and possibility to listen to expert views of the researchers from different countries on a number of issues of international security and to take part in the discussion.
