On 8 September, students from the Department of Ecological Geology of the Faculty of Geology of VSU participated in the environmental campaign “Cleaning the bank of the Don”, which took place in the settlement Tereshkovo in the Boguchar region. The volunteer movement at the faculty is supervised by Irina Kosinova, the Head of the Department of Ecological Geology.
She also made it possible for the students to take part in the campaign which was initiated by Alexey Gordeev, Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. He also headed a group of volunteers. Among other participants of the event were employees of the regional Rosprirodnadzor headed by Alexey Karyakin, who is also a graduate of the Faculty of Geology of VSU.
About 10 thousand baby sterlets were released into the river to restore the population of sturgeons. Also, the participants of the campaign cleaned household waste from the bank. While working together with Alexei Gordeyev, the students asked him questions concerning the conservation of the Don and the territory around it.
