On 20 October, the project “Green Campus VSU: on the green track” was presented in the main building of VSU. It is aimed at providing information about Russian and European ecological policies, the development of ecological awareness, promoting environmental protection, and enhancing environmental activism in the academic community. The main partner of the project is the EU delegation to Russia.
On the part of VSU, among the participants of the project were representatives of the Department of International Cooperation, the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, the Faculty of Geography, Geology, and Tourism, and the Botanical Garden. The VSU staff will visit European universities to study the experience of using green technologies at university campuses and the development of cooperation in the area of environmental protection. As a result, a “Map of best green practices” will be created. As part of the project, the VSU Apothecary Garden is expected to be created, which will become a laboratory for students from specialised faculties: they will learn to plant, grow, and recycle medicinal herbs and to prepare herbal teas and drinks. Other plans include the installation of “green walls” on the territory of the university. These are installations of specified plant species which will help reduce the noise level and create a more comfortable microclimate in buildings.
Last December, just before the Catholic Christmas, the contest “Ticket to the Future” was announced. We invented a “Green campus” which is aimed at sorting-out rubbish, sustainable water and energy management, and promotion of the eco-friendly lifestyle,” said Alla Akulshina, Head of International Relations office at VSU and the coordinator of the project. VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky said that they had discussed a partnership aimed at the implementation of the Green Campus VSU project with representatives of the pharmaceutical company Bionorica and Sberbank Russia.
The project will be concluded in September 2022 with a “Green Festival” which anybody will be able to visit.
