The Geographical Dictation of the Russian Geographical Society was held for the seventh time. The goal of this large-scale international educational event was to promote geographical knowledge and increase interest in geography of Russia among its population.

Due to the unfavourable epidemiological situation in the region, the Voronezh branch of the Russian Geographical Society worked remotely at its main platform. Military officers and cadets from closed platforms as well as students from several schools where all the required anti-epidemic conditions were met, wrote the dictation in the traditional form.

The traditional main platform of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society was organised at VSU with 1,000 seats reserved. An extra platform was provided due to the large number of applications. The total flow capacity of the remote platform at VSU was more than 2 thousand people.

The rest of the participants, about 400 more people, were offered to write the dictation online.

“The interest in this project of the Russian Geographical Society is constantly growing, Not knowing about your native country is just a shame when it is a huge country that discovered Antarctica and the Northern Sea Route, is washed by 13 seas, and has 11 time zones. And this is a great motivation for us as organisers to expand geographically and to develop the areas of the Society’s activities in our region,” said Semion Kurolap, the main organiser of the dictation platform at VSU, Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism, provisional Head of the Voronezh Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
