On 14 March, the second meeting of the VSU Philosophy Discussion Club was held at the Fiction Department of the VSU Library as part of the Students’ Research Society (SRS). Dmitry Mayatsky, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology at VSU, presented a report entitled “Freedom to be yourself: the modern identity crisis, its causes and consequences”. The report identified the key factors influencing the formation of self-determination and the causes of identity crisis.

The meeting focused on the specifics of identity crisis in modern society. The students discussed the causes of identity crisis and the characteristics of the virtual person. The participants concluded that identity crisis is a natural stage in human development that has to be overcome. The issue of self-identification is related to the loss of orientation in society and the collapse of “master” attitudes. An identity crisis results from a conflict between volatile social structures and an individual who is unable to fit into the system.

“We do hope that our Students' Research Society project will be useful for students, especially for first-year students who have just started their academic research activities. It is also a great opportunity to practice public speaking and experience sharing,” said Maria Shurygina, a third-year student of the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology at VSU and the coordinator of the Philosophy Discussion Club.
