VSU teams took third places in the regional Universiade, in which 8 men’s and 7 women’s teams from Voronezh based universities participated. The competition was held from 14 to 31 March.

“This year’s tournament was particularly difficult for us. Not only had the performance of the teams from Voronezh based universities become better, but our team also played in several tournaments in parallel, upholding the honour of the university. The participants tried their best and put all their energy and emotion into the competition. Our women’s team improved on last year’s result and took third place. The men’s team had tense finals in their last matches, where they fell short in both strength and good fortune. Unfortunately, this year we placed third, but the guys already want to get back to practice and improve their performance and endurance in order to win next year,” said Daniil Fedorov, captain of the VSU men’s basketball team.

“I think our students performed very well in the competition. Well, we didn’t get first place this year, we were a bit lacking in rests between games and time to prepare due to distance learning for most of the academic year. Now we are waiting for the verification of the results of the intra-university stage of the ASSC of Russia championship. We hope that this year we will also be able to visit Kazan to attend the All-Russian Super Final,” commented Igor Kotok, specialist from the Department of Student Affairs of VSU.

The teams are coached by Maria Yanishevskaya, a senior teacher from the Department of Physical Education and Sports of VSU.
