Evgeny Kersnovsky, a 4th year student from the Department of Solid State Physics and Nanostructures of the Faculty of Physics, VSU, participated in Alferov Winter School 2022. Evgeny was the only representative from VSU out of 250 applicants.
The school opened on 28 March at Alferov St. Petersburg National Research Academic University. Alferov Winter School includes working on research projects in teams led by top scientists from Alferov University. The research projects focus on physics and nanotechnology. Participation in the Winter School entitles you to enter a master’s programme at Alferov University without examination.
Evgeny Kersnovsky’s team designed and tested a solar panel. The project was successfully defended at the end of the school programme. Among the results of Evgeny’s team is a microphotograph of a silicon wafer textured as silicon columns about 200–500 nanometres in diameter. The textured surface reduces the reflection coefficient of the silicon wafer and increases the efficiency of the solar cell.
“The trip was a positive experience: it was unusual and interesting to meet new researchers, to work as a team with participants from all over Russia, to share our experience, personal interests, and just to interact with people who share the same ideas. Following the trip, two wishes arose: to visit St. Petersburg in the warmer months and to take part in the Alferov Winter School again,” said Evgeny Kersnovsky.
