On 6 May, VSU held a memorial mass meeting devoted to the Victory Day. The event was attended by employees and students of the Military Training Centre of VSU, as well as employees and students of the university.

In his welcoming speech the VSU Rector, Dmitry Endovitsky, greeted the veterans and remembered the history of the university in the war years.

“For every citizen of Russia the Victory Day is the main holiday and we always look forward to it. And we feel both pain and joy. This is a special holiday for me. My grandfather, Alexey Sobolev, a division deputy commander, died when liberating Kiev. Neither I, nor my mother ever saw him,” said Dmitry Endovitsky.

The participants of the event were also congratulated by Vladimir Listengarten, Rector’s Councillor, Ludmila Vladimirova, Chair of the Trade Union Committee of VSU, and Yuri Korenchuk, Head of the Military Training Centre of VSU. After the speeches, the participants laid a wreath and flowers at the memorial. They also paid tribute to the memory of those fallen in the war with a minute of silence.

Students and staff of VSU also paid tribute to Boris Mikhantiev, university rector and a participant of the Second World War.

In addition, students from the Faculty of History laid flowers to the memorial plaque dedicated to Professor Alexander Nemirovsky, the founder of the Department of Ancient History and a participant of the Great Patriotic War, holder of the Order of the Red Banner.
