The SCImago laboratory published the annual SCImago Institutions Rankings in which VSU took 94th place among Russian universities and research organisations. VSU also took 742nd place worldwide. Using international databases, Spanish laboratory SCImago assessed the performance of 8,084 educational institutions and research centres all over the world.
The ranking is based on scientific results published in Scopus, the unified bibliographic and citation database of reviewed scientific literature. They are systematised by three blocks: research (50%), innovations (30%), and social impact (20%). Among the evaluation criteria are the amount of published articles, the number of patent applications, the percentage of articles with international co-authors, as well as the percentage of scientific publications cited in patents.
