On 14 July, Alexander Gusev, the Governor of the Voronezh Region, awarded Associate Professor Leonid Akimov, Head of the Department of Nature Management of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism, PhD in Geography, with the title of an Honoured Meteorologists of the Russian Federation.
The title was awarded for the personal contribution of Leonid Akimov to the elaboration of the hydrometeorological support of the environmental monitoring and forecasting of hazardous meteorological phenomena. The effectiveness of these activities was tested in the Central Black Earth Region. The title also aims to praise the research and teaching activities of Leonid Akimov who trains future geologists, ecologists, and specialists in natural resource management at VSU, and organises advanced training programmes for hydrometeorologists.
Leonid Akimov has been working at VSU for over 10 years. 10 years ago he was appointed Head of the Department of Nature Management of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism. He is the author and co-author of 120 research papers, study guides, and software products on meteorology and climatology. Leonid Akimov is a scientific supervisor at the hydrometeorological laboratory of VSU, which performs systematic hydrometeorological surveys and analyses of satellite hydrometeorological data. Leonid Akimov’s research interests also include the study of climate resources and the effect of climate forming factors on the temperature of the atmosphere over the European Russia, as well as the development of methods for forecasting of weather and natural hazards.
