Alexander Syrykh, a master's degree student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of Voronezh State University, took third place at the national competition “Science of the Future – Science of the Young 2022”. The competition was held in Novosibirsk between 23 and 26 August. According to the results of the pre-selection, Alexander Syrykh advanced to the semi-finals, in which the participants had to give a two-minute presentation and to answer questions. Twelve out of thirty semi-finalists progressed to the final, in which the participants had to give a report and take part in a discussion.

In the finals, Alexander Syrykh gave a report “Real-time procedural generation of volumetric clouds” (supervised by Sergey Medvedev, Associate Professor at the Department of Computational Mathematics and Applied Information Technologies). His project took third place in the finals of the competition.

“I am very glad that I had a chance to take part in this event. This was an invaluable experience of speaking and working in a new format. I had the opportunity to meet new people and see a new city. I liked the competition because of its friendly, investigative atmosphere. The jury showed interest in my work in the semi-finals, and it was really interesting for me to answer questions on my topic. There were many interesting speeches, for example, I remember the best a project dedicated to the use of artificial intelligence in medicine. Thank you to the university and my supervisor for letting me know about this contest and helping to prepare for it! I hope that in the future students from VSU and the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics will participate in and win this competition,” said Alexander Syrykh.
