On 4 September, the VSU student sport club “Khitschnye Bobry” (Rapacious Beavers) took part in the national “Georgian Games” within the framework of the Student League in Moscow. “Khitschnye Bobry” became one of the two teams outside Moscow which participated in the competition. The club advanced to the top division. In total, the students won six cups.
The first cup was won by the team that competed in the interactive multi-sport event which includes classical sports combined with modern technologies. The athletes competed in VR boxing, interactive shooting range, gorodki, mini golf, VR hockey, and play-fit. The captain for the new discipline was Igor Pachin, a sixth-year student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics.
Basketball teams were also successful: the men's team (captain of the team Daniil Fedorov, a second year master’s degree student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics) took first place and the women’s team (captain of the team Maria Kitaeva, a first year master’s degree student from the Faculty of Chemistry) took third place.
The mixed volleyball team led by Maxim Kolesnikov, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, came third.
The football team (captain Igor Pachin, a student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics) under the leadership of Alexander Sikorsky, senior teacher from the Department of Physical Education and Sports, took first place and had an absolute advantage in overall standing.
“It’s pointless to say that the best students study at VSU. You just need to climb the stairs to the first floor of the main university building and see a stand which is completely packed with our awards. The guys showed a beautiful game and were worthy to represent the university and the region at the event. I am very glad that I had the opportunity to accompany the students to the tournament. Now, we are going to prepare for the next stage of the league, which will be held in December. We express our gratitude to the Department of Physical Education and Sports for preparing our students excellently. Even after summer vacations, the athletes showed the highest level of expertise,” said Igor Kotok, the Head of the delegation.
