In the coworking centre at the Youth Centre, Federal Agency for Youth Affairs awarded the winners of the national project “League of the Future”. Among the winners is Daria Galtsova, a graduate student from the Faculty of Philology of VSU, and her project dedicated to the issues of socialisation of international students “Russian Holidays”. Also, the winners included two more girls from the Voronezh Region.

“During my teaching practice, I communicated a lot with students from Turkmenistan and I was quite surprised to learn that for international students, strangely enough, holidays are nowhere near being the most favourite time of their university years since most of them can’t go home. The students have to spend nearly all their time on campus, they don’t know the city well, they hardly ever have the chance to visit cultural and educational events, and making friends with their Russian speaking peers is challenging due to the language barrier. As a result, I came up with an idea to make the holidays useful and eventful for international students. Then, I created the “Russian Holidays” project whose goal is to help international students socialise during summer and winter holidays,” said Daria Galtsova.

The project will develop in two main areas:

  • Immersing international students into the Russian culture by learning more about Voronezh as a cultural and historical centre of the Black Earth Region (specialised tours within and outside the city, visiting theatres, museums, exhibitions, and concerts).
  • Organising a speaking club in which Russian volunteers will take part and lectures will be given to international students aimed at broadening their cultural and historical horizons.

The goal of the “League of the Future” project is to collect and implement the ideas and projects by young people from all over Russia. Its participants included schoolchildren, students, young employees, youth non-profit organizations, young entrepreneurs and scientists, athletes, and creative young people aged between 14 and 35.
