The tenth CTF summer school was held in July and August in Solnechnogorsk (as a computer security competition). Students of the Faculty of Computer Sciences, Timofey Ulezko and Pavel Pechyonkin, joined the summer school.

This year, more than one hundred participants from different cities of Russia, including St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Surgut, Voronezh, Taganrog, and others came to the school. Over the course of two study weeks, the students solved information security problems, listened to the speeches of the representatives of big IT companies, and took part in individual and team competitions.

The study programme included lectures by the leading specialists in the field of information security and representatives of such large companies as Positive Technologies, ServicePipe, Kaspersky Lab, InfoTeKS, “Association of Administrators of Information Security Services” and others.

“This is my first summer school, and it was unforgettable. For two weeks I delved into this new field of study and communications with interesting people. The educational programme involved not only information security but also some issues from the area of psychology and socialisation. The organisers did their best to make our stay at this school comfortable and they were really helpful,” said Timofey Ulezko, a student from the Faculty of Computer Sciences.

For the solution of problems, the participants received individual and team points. They had a chance to participate in team competitions similar to “Hackathon” and “AntiCTF” (where they solved the problems created by the participants themselves). BSU students showed a good level of training and solved most problems in the individual competition. Pavel Pechyonkin’s team won first place in the AntiCTF competition.

“At first it was hard to follow the pace of the school as it was very intensive. But I soon got used to it and saw the advantages of this format. Over these two weeks we studied a lot of topics associated with information security. However, not lectures but people were the most important element of the school. The summer school gathered incredibly talented and interesting people who shared the same interests,” said Pavel Pechyonkin, a student from the Faculty of Computer Sciences.
