Professor Viktor Golub, Head of the Department of Zoology and Parasitology, visited the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St Petersburg as part of a research trip. The visit took place from 22 October to 2 November.
The Department of Zoology and Parasitology has cooperated with several laboratories of the Zoological Institute of RAS for many decades. Within the framework of this cooperation, various joint projects on the study of the fauna and systematics of insects have been and are being carried out. This cooperation is also stimulated by the fact that a number of lecturers of the Department of Zoology and Parasitology undertook postgraduate studies and defended their theses at the Zoological Institute. This has resulted in long-term relationships.
The recent visit of Professor Viktor Golub to the Zoological Institute was related to the implementation of his project supported by the Russian Science Foundation, “Analysis of Features of Formation of Heteroptera Complexes in the Central Palearctic Mountain Systems under the Effect of Historical and Modern Factors Using Morphological, Karyological, and Molecular Cytogenetic Approaches”.
“Traditionally, entomologists of our department make trips to the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences every year (several times a year if possible). These trips give us the opportunity to work with the richest collections of insects kept there. These are scientific collections gathered over several centuries in different parts of the world. Of course, each trip to the Zoological Institute is a unique opportunity for scientific communication with peers who work there, and with those who come temporarily for work and consultations,” said Professor Viktor Golub, Head of the Department of Zoology and Parasitology at VSU.
