On 8 November, the exhibition “Around the world” opened at Voronezh State Industrial and Humanities College named after V.M. Peskov. The exhibition includes dolls and souvenirs from Russian regions and different countries of the world collected by the Rector of VSU Dmitry Endovitsky. It was opened as part of a partnership project of the college museum “Stop-frame” and the VSU History Museum.
Among the guests of the exhibition were students and staff of the college. The participants were welcomed by the organisers of the exposition, including Irina Zolotareva, head of the museum of Voronezh State Industrial and Humanities College named after V.M. Peskov, Alexandra Stepynina, head of the VSU History Museum, and Anzhelika Makarova, the main guardian of the collections of the VSU History Museum. According to the representatives of Voronezh State University, the value of this exhibition is not only cultural: it motivates people to learn more about the unique traditions and specific features of different nations.
“It is always a pleasure to open exhibitions, and especially outside the university when we try to show the best that we have. This exhibition has already been displayed in the Chizhov Gallery shopping centre, and now it has moved to educational institutions of Voronezh,” said Alexandra Stepynina, head of the VSU History Museum.
Roman Kotov, the first deputy director of the college and deputy director for student affairs, Yana Borovikova, deputy director for inclusive education, and Lyudmila Skrytnikova, head of the department of social work, pedagogy and law, were present at the opening of the exhibition.
Igor Antonenko, director of Voronezh State Industrial and Humanities College named after V.M. Peskov, also visited the exhibition. The representatives of the college noted the increased interest of students who were especially attracted by the “unique atmosphere” of the presented dolls and souvenirs.
The “Around the world” collection includes more than 100 items made of stone, ceramics, porcelain, glazed pottery, wood, plastic, metal, leather, fabric, and fur. Most items at the exhibition are dolls wearing national costumes and appropriate accessories. Each element reflects national identity and represents culture and spirit of a certain country.
“The art project “Around the world” is a unique chance to see the works of different genres and techniques in one place which share one important feature: they embody the thoughts and ideas of their creators showing not only a high level of professionalism but also philosophy and a bright character of craftsmen from around the world,” said Anzhelika Makarova, the main guardian of the collections of the VSU History Museum.
According to Alexandra Stepynina, Dmitry Endovitsky’s family began collecting dolls during their journeys around the world and business trips to different countries. Today, there are over 300 dolls in the VSU Rector's collection and the current exhibition presents only a small but an impressive part of it. Each item reflects the specific culture of the country that it was brought from. In the exhibition hall of Voronezh State Industrial and Humanities College named after V.M. Peskov you can see dolls from European countries as well as Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Africa, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Mexico, USA, Chile, Peru, and some regions of Russia.
The exhibition will be opened until 8 December. The “Around the world” exhibition is open to students and staff of the college.
