On 16 November, prior to the Day of the Higher Education Teacher, the exhibition “Iosif Sternin: Scientist. Educator. Man” opened in the hall of the ground floor of the main building of Voronezh State University. His friends, colleagues, and students as well as Voronezh residents who listened to his radio programme “Territory of the Word” on the regional radio visited the opening ceremony.
Zhanna Gracheva, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Vladimir Listengarten, Academic Secretary of the Council of Rectors of the Voronezh Region, participants and audience members of the programme “We Speak Russian”, and successors of the “Territory of the Word” project expressed their gratitude to Professor Sternin. Mariana Rosenfeld, Acting Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Stylistics, told the visitors about the main items of the exhibition.
During the opening ceremony, the prizes were awarded by the Foundation for the Support of Young Linguists, the Sternin Foundation, created on the initiative of Iosif Sternin. The fund’s prize “For loyalty to the profession” was awarded to Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Stylistics Natalya Kozelskaya and the prize “For active philological efforts” was awarded to Natalya Tokareva, senior lecturer of the Department of Publishing. Alexander Isaev, former employee of the VSU press service, received the prize “For photographing philological events at Voronezh University over the course of many years”.
The fund organised a contest for the best young philology teacher dedicated to the Day of the Higher Education Teacher. Daria Utitskikh, lecturer from the Department of English of Sciences Faculties, won the competition, and Anastasia Akulova, lecturer from the same department, and Evgenia Kuzminova, lecturer from the Department of Translation and Professional Communication, became the laureates and received their diplomas and cash prizes. Special prizes were given to Daria Galtsova, lecturer from the Department of Slavic Philology, and Ekaterina Strelnikova, lecturer from the Department of Russian Literature of XX–XXI Centuries and the Theory of Literature and Humanities.
The exhibition presenting the main scientific works of Professor Sternin, his photographs, and personal items will be open until the New Year.
