On November 19, the 22nd workshop “One Hundred Years Have Passed”: Stories of the 1920s and “The Life of Arseniev” novel in Scientific Research of the 21st Century” was held at the Faculty of Philology, both face-to-face and online. A workshop is a special kind of research seminar, which is annually organised and conducted by the Department of Russian Literature of XX–XXI Centuries, the Theory of Literature and Humanities.
The workshop was attended by scientists, graduate students and students from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Samara, Yelets, Yekaterinburg, Kirov, and Pyatigorsk. Within the framework of the seminar, there was a presentation of new publications of the department, a prospectus of a monograph on the prose of the 1920s by a graduate of the department, PhD in Philology Tatyana Skripnikova, as well as a presentation of the first monograph in Hungarian by Maria Rats, a PhD of the Eotvos Lorand University, with whom Bunin scholars have been cooperating for a long time.
The seminar discussed the problems of textual criticism, the interpretation of the writer's work in criticism of the Russian diaspora, and the author's strategies of Bunin in the prose of the 1920s. Original interpretations of the stories of the first years of emigration were offered, new materials about the writer's stay in Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, and France were presented.
Employees of Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, preparing for publication the academic set of works of I. A. Bunin participated remotely in the workshop. VSU scientists have a cooperation agreement with colleagues from Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which has been successfully implemented for a number of years.
The workshop hosted the awarding of students who took part in the essay competition on film version of novels of I.A. Bunin.
The speeches of the participants will be published in the periodical of the department “Metaphysics of I.A. Bunin" (Issue 6).
