University representatives take part in an international conference in the Adygea Republic

Representatives of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism and the Botanical Garden of the Voronezh State University took part in the I International Scientific and Practical Conference "Environmental Problems of the Use of Mountain Forests". It was held on November 18–19 at the Maikop State Technological University.

The conference is aimed at creating of a uniform information space for interaction, exchange of experience and creative initiatives of representatives of the scientific community and practitioners and the development of practical recommendations and proposals for the use of forests. It is symbolic that the meeting took place in the year of the 100th anniversary of the statehood of the Adygea Republic, which is one of the five most environmentally friendly regions of Russia.

Yury Bubnov, VSU Vice Rector for Strategic Administrative Management, Olga Solomina, Director of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Igor Volochaev, Director of the Association "Environmental Control and Forest Protection "Interuniversity Laboratory", Galina Konovalova, Dean of the Faculty of Ecology of Maikop State Technological University and other representatives of the educational and scientific community addressed the audience with welcoming speeches.

The conference had a mixed format, and most of the VSU representatives made their presentations remotely. Thus, staff of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology and Tourism of VSU: Associate Professor Dmitry Vladimirov, Professor Anna Grigorievskaya, Associate Professor Anatoly Krupko, lecturer Elena Podobed, and research fellow of the Botanical Garden of VSU Lilia Lepeshkina presented their reports remotely. Evgenia Zhigulina, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Geography and Landscape Optimisation of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism made an in-person presentation on Landscape and Recreational Features of the Voronezh Upland Oak Forest in the Voronezh River Basin of the Voronezh Region.

On the final day, an on-site seminar in the Shaposhnikov Caucasian State Nature Biosphere Reserve  was organised. There, the participants discussed the project for the creation of a new generation resort called Lagonaki and the prospects for it.
