On 28–29 November, the first Eurasian Youth Economic Forum was held at Moscow State Institute of International Relations with the support of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). Yana Androsova and Sofia Kornilova, third year students from the Faculty of International Relations of VSU, took part in the event. The students participated in two sections of the forum: “EAEU-SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) Cooperation” and “Business and Investment in the EAEU Region”.

The agenda of the forum included a plenary meeting featuring the expert community, as well as three panels: “EAEU-SCO Cooperation”, “Healthcare and Drug Market of the EAEU”, and “Business and Investment in the EAEU Region”. For each workshop, participants were organised into teams to solve practical cases. The teams’ solutions were evaluated by a jury. In total, students from 17 countries and 16 regions of Russia took part in the forum.

At the introductory plenary meeting, I really enjoyed the addresses by Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and Andrey Belousov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. When top officials of the state say that they believe in young people, it provides great motivation. I took part in the “EAEU-SCO Cooperation” panel, where we were asked to solve a case study. It was a time-consuming task, because my team chose a challenging topic, “Green Energy”. Our project was highly appreciated by the expert panel,” commented Yana Androsova.

“At the opening ceremony, I was very inspired by the speeches made by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the role of the younger generation in the development of the country. As a young professional, I think it is very important to give students the opportunity to prove themselves and to participate in various events. I took part in the “Business and Investment in the EAEU Region” panel. Our task was to develop a business plan that could be implemented in the future. Our team had a long discussion regarding the possible ways of solving the case, but we decided to develop a project for a single payment system for all the member countries of the union. My main task was to analyse statistical data: transactions between the member states and the percentage of bank charges for transferring funds between the states. When we presented the project, we received an expert opinion from an EAEU representative, who was impressed by the scale of our project. The project is challenging to implement, but the experts concluded that it is the most promising and relevant for the EAEU,” said Sofia Kornilova.
