On December 13, the Service Department of the VSU Regional Library opened a book and illustration exhibition “Les Saisons Russes”. It is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Sergey Diaghilev (March 31, 1872 – August 19, 1929), an outstanding theatrical and artistic figure and entrepreneur. He created the triumphant “Russian Seasons” (theatrical tour, which was successfully held from 1908 to 1921) and “Diaghilev’s Russian Ballet”.
The exhibition introduces its visitors to the works revealing the life and creative path of Diaghilev, as well as the icons of the “Russian Seasons”. It presents books and albums from the fiction literature section and the foreign languages section of the VSU library. The exhibition features bibliographical descriptions by Olga Tovitskaya, lead bibliographer of the library.
Through the art of opera and ballet Sergey Diaghilev introduced Europe and America to Russian culture with its national traditions and the latest avant-garde trends. Diaghilev’s productions were a true revolution in the world of theatre. Each one was a colourful show with sumptuous costumes, mesmerising scenery and music.
The exhibition can be visited until January 31 at: 24 Prospect Revolutsii, 4th floor, room 418.
Visitors can only use the exhibited literature in the fiction literature section of the VSU library.
