16th Swimming Championship of the Voronezh Region among veterans was held in the VSU swimming pool. Among the participants were 118 swimmers from 28 clubs of Russia: Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Tula, Lipetsk, Severodvinsk, and Sevastopol.
The VSU Swimming School was represented by its coaches Tatiana Prokofieva, Svetlana Shaferman, and Yuri Perin. All the participants were awarded with certificates and unusual medals depicting a fish from the animated film “Finding Nemo”, which they received during registration.
The core of the judging panel consisted of two national level judges: Svetlana Kuznetsova and Alexandra Shagaeva. Irina Motorkina, Honoured Coach of Russia, Leading Specialist of the Department of International Relations and Regional Development of the Russian Swimming Federation, who had an anniversary that day, gave a welcoming speech at the beginning of the second day of the competitions. She congratulated the participants of the tournament and read the address of Vladimir Salnikov, President of the Russian Swimming Federation, who expressed his best wishes and encouragement to the veterans. On behalf of the organisers and the judging panel, Irina Motorkina received a beautiful bouquet. The first day of the competition was concluded by a tour to the only diving museum in Russia.
The results of athletes at two distances were used to conclude the results for the nomination “The Magnificent Ten”. All the nominees of the “The Magnificent Ten” received numbered medals, certificates of the Department of Sports of the Voronezh Region and confectionery produced in Voronezh. The award ceremony was hosted by Santa Claus.
For the fifth time, the absolute winner of the tournament was Tatiana Prokofieva, a coach of the VSU swimming pool. Yuri Perin performed the duties of a technical delegate of the Swimming “Masters” Federation of Russia and Santa Claus.
