On 6 January, Professor Anatoly Latyshev, Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation, DSc in Physics and Mathematics, Professor at the Faculty of Physics of VSU celebrated his 90th anniversary. Professor Latyshev is an outstanding physicist and experimenter who has made a huge contribution to the development of science and physics at VSU.

Anatoly Latyshev is a graduate of VSU's Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. In 1956, he graduated from the Division of Optics and Spectroscopy of the Department of Electromagnetic Oscillations. Later, he wrote a PhD dissertation under the supervision of Professor Maria Levitskaya. In 1964, he defended his PhD dissertation and in 1984 his doctoral dissertation. His career path included working as a laboratory assistant at the Department of Electromagnetic Oscillations, a teaching assistant, a senior lecturer at the Department of General Physics, an associate professor, a professor, and the Head of the Department of Optics and Spectroscopy (between 1971 and 2010). He was also the party secretary at VSU (between 1983 and 1987). In recent years, Anatoly Latyshev has been working as a consulting professor at the Department of Optics.

He is a recognised specialist in the physics of photosensitive crystals, optical spectroscopy of impurity states of crystals with a mixed bond type. Anatoly Latyshev is the author of the first works devoted to the spectral properties of plasma nanoparticles. Anatoly Latyshev discovered and explained the fine structure of the colloidal band of light extinction with thin layers of silver; he studied the energy states of low-atomic clusters and adsorbed atoms on the surface of ionic-covalent crystals; he discovered a new class of photochemical processes in photosensitive crystals; he discovered and investigated the photostimulated transformation of adsorbed atoms and low-atomic clusters. He carried out unique experiments dedicated to thermal generation of surface electromagnetic waves, he proposed methods of reverse recording and luminescent reading of optical information.

Anatoly Latyshev is the head of the leading scientific school of VSU “Photostimulated processes on the surface of crystals with ionic-covalent bonds”. Twenty-two PhD and five DSc students of Anatoly Latyshev successfully defended their dissertations.

The Rector’s office of Voronezh State University, the Faculty of Physics, employees, students, and graduates of the Department of Optics and Spectroscopy from the bottom of their hearts congratulate Anatoly Latyshev on his anniversary and wish him good health, vigour, energy, and every success for many years! Anatoly Latyshev, we wish you light, love, and prosperity!
