On 25 January, on the day of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Voronezh, a traditional rally dedicated to the memorable date was held in the park of the main building of VSU. Representatives of the university: university administration, lecturers, employees, and students gathered at the memorial to VSU staff and students who died during the Great Patriotic War.
The welcoming speech was given by Oleg Grishayev, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Social Development. Rector Dmitry Endovitsky, Lyudmila Vladimirova, Head of the Trade Union committee of VSU employees, Vladimir Listengarten, a Rector's councillor and the witness of memorable historical events, and Anna Meshcheryakova, Head of the patriotic club of VSU “Height 155”, gave speeches to commemorate the historical date.
After that, the participants traditionally laid flowers at the memorial and ended the rally with a minute of silence.
In the hall of the main university building, the patriotic club of VSU “Height 155” organised a photo exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Voronezh. The historic images of the city depict well-known buildings that were destroyed or damaged during the Great Patriotic War and modern sights of Voronezh.
This day, flowers were also laid at mass grave No. 440 in the Kozo-Polyansky Botanical Garden of Voronezh State University.
The event was attended by Andrey Voronin, the Director of the botanical garden, employees of the botanical garden, Sergei Belinsky, the Chief Specialist of the City Council, Sergey Opipchenko, a leading specialist of the City Council, Yulia Barziy, the Deputy Headmistress for Pupil’s Affairs at school No. 102, elementary school students, the youth army unit “Antares”, and the school non-governmental organisation “GRiN”.
