On 2 and 3 March, the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Saint Petersburg) housed the eighth national scientific conference for young specialists in Asian studies “China and its neighbours”. The event was attended by Ekaterina Zavalina, a third year student completing the programme “Foreign Regional Studies” at the Faculty of International Relations of Voronezh State University. The student gave a presentation dedicated to the topic “Development of Islam in China”.
“The reports presented by the participants of the conference were very diverse: from the history of China and the linguistics of the Chinese language to the religion and foreign policy of the country. It was a great pleasure to talk to experienced sinologists. This gave me an understanding of how I can develop. I was glad to hear the constructive criticism of the Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences about my report and I promised to correct all inaccuracies before I publish the article. I think this is my first, but not the last experience of participating in this conference”, said Ekaterina Zavalina.
