Regional swimming competitions “Voronezh, the capital of the Black Earth Region” were held in the VSU swimming pool. This was the first sprint festival in the Voronezh Region. It was attended by more than 300 children from the Voronezh, Belgorod, and Tula Regions.
A distinctive feature of these competitions was that it was judged by an impartial electronic time-tracking system with the computer-aided recording of results. This is the only electronic timing system in the swimming pools of Voronezh, which allows recording results with an accuracy of 0.01 seconds. The athletes showed outstanding performance at the event: two female participants had the same time of 35.67 seconds and took first place in the 50-metre breaststroke.
At the opening ceremony, when the anthem of the Russian Federation was played, the best athletes of the Voronezh Region raised the national flag. During the competitions, children over 9 years old swam 50-meter distances in four styles: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. All prize-winners were awarded with unusual medals, which were the largest in the history of the region. They depict the coat of arms of Voronezh State University and the Nemo fish swimming away from the “Voronezh crow” from a famous cartoon. Also, the awards were received by the winners in the nomination “Absolute superiority” for the best time as a sum of four distances.
