On 13 March, a poster exhibition of the Kramskoi Museum “Voronezh Palace. History and Architecture” was held in the main building of Voronezh State University. This mobile exposition was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the museum. Voronezh State University was the first site of the exhibition since the archives of the collections of the two organisations have a common history.
Among the participants of the opening ceremony of the anniversary exhibition were Dmitry Endovitsky, Rector of Voronezh State University, Alexandra Stepynina, Head of the University History Museum, and Angelika Makarova, the main guardian. The historical exhibition was presented by Yulia Zaichenko, Director of Kramskoi Voronezh Regional Art Museum, Natalia Bakina, Academic Secretary and the curator of the exhibition, and Anna Paliy, Senior Publicity Agent of the museum. Among the first visitors of the exhibition were students and lecturers of Voronezh State University.
“In 1933, the Museum of Antiquities became a separate unit of Voronezh State University. It was merged with the provincial museum of local lore, whose collections became the foundation of the Kramskoi Museum. Therefore, our beloved museum with one of the richest collections in the country “has the DNA” of Voronezh State University”, said Dmitry Endovitsky.
According to Natalia Bakina, the curator of the exhibition, the exhibition is the result of research. It tells about the history and the construction of the building, which has been housing the museum for decades. Laconic and succinct posters present a lot of information. Colleagues from organisations from all over the country helped the specialists of the Kramskoi Museum to collect the data: Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, State Museum of History of Saint Petersburg, and Voronezh Regional Museum of Local Lore.
“The anniversary of the Kramskoi Museum is the starting point from which we approach its centenary. Within this decade, we plan to seriously transform the museum so that it becomes a modern art platform, a centre of attraction for adults and young people. It is incredibly pleasant for us to open this exhibition, which we have been preparing for more than six months. And it is even more pleasing to open it here, at Voronezh State University”, said Yulia Zaichenko, Director of the museum.
This exhibition is unique since for the first time it presents the building as a separate subject of study. The history of the only palace-type building in Voronezh is shown in archival photographs and watercolour drawings. Works by artists, architects, and photographers presented in chronological order show how the museum building has lived and changed over the centuries.
You can see the exhibition “Voronezh Palace. History and Architecture” in the hall of the 1st floor of the main building of Voronezh State University.
