On 10 March, the 26th international tournament “Andrei Shumilin's Cup” in free-style wrestling took place in Kaliningrad. Anton Pushechkin, a second-year student from the Faculty of Mathematics of Voronezh State University, took third place in the 92 kg weight category. He is coached by Alexander Belanov, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Voronezh State University and Master of Sports of the USSR.
About 120 athletes from 25 regions of Russia, Belarus, and Abkhazia participated in the competitions. Among the participants were candidates for national teams and representatives of the strongest wrestling schools.
“I took part in the international tournament among juniors under 24 years old. The final fight for the third place was really tough for me, but my skills and attitude helped me to defeat the athlete from the Krasnoyarsk Territory with a score of 6:2. These competitions gave me a lot of experience, because you don’t get a chance to perform at the international level every day. I would like to thank my coach, Alexander Belanov, and the entire Department of Physical Education for their support”, said Anton Pushechkin.
