Alexander Albekov, PhD in Geology and Mineralogy, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Mineralogy, Petrography, and Geochemistry of the Faculty of Geology of Voronezh State University, became a participant of the teleconference “23 reasons to talk about women in science”. The teleconference was held by the Atomic Energy Information Centres of Voronezh and Chelyabinsk.
Alexander Albekov spoke about minerals that were discovered by women and rocks named in their honour, as well as about how germs are treated and cut when jewellery is made.
“There are many famous women in geology. For example, one of them is oceanographer Maria Klenova, who created a new area in geology. She singled out marine geology as an independent science, developed a technique for compiling bottom sediment charts for seas and oceans. Under her leadership, maps of the bottom of the Barents, White, Caspian, and other seas were compiled. Another example is Larisa Popugaeva, PhD in Geology and Mineralogy, who discovered the first in Yakutia primary diamond deposit, the kimberlite pipe “Zarnitsa””, said Alexander Albekov.
Apart from Alexander Albekov, among the participants of the teleconference were Ksenia Malina, a personal stylist and film stylist, and Maria Berezovskaya, a research engineer at the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics.
