On 31 March, students and teachers of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism took part in an on-line lecture on the climate, which was conducted by experts from the Russian Ecological Society. The purpose of the event is to increase the ecological culture of young people in relation to the problem of climate change. The event was opened by Olga Zhilenkova, Chairman of the Board of the Voronezh Regional Branch of the Russian Ecological Society. She spoke about the operation of the Russian Ecological Society and, in particular, the Voronezh Regional Branch.
The participants were welcomed by Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism, Doctor of Geography, Professor Semion Kurolap. He drew attention to the high relevance of climate problems in the modern world.
Leonid Akimov, Head of the Department of Nature Management of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism, Honoured Meteorologist of the Russian Federation, in his welcoming speech emphasized the importance of studying the problems of climate change.
The speakers of the event were Natalia Ushakova, the Director of the Department of Regional Development of the Russian Ecological Society, Deputy Head of the Department of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development of the Academy of Standardization, Meteorology and Certification (educational); Alexander Ginzburg, DSc in Physics and Mathematics, Chief Researcher of the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Public Expert Council for the national project "Ecology", scientific director of the project "Climate Expedition" ; Raya Bekmurzaeva, head of the regional branch of the REO in the Chechen Republic, associate professor, PhD in Economics, acting Head of the Department of Ecology and Management of Natural Resources, Head of the Laboratory "Geoinformation Technologies and Territory Remote Probing".
Natalia Ushakova spoke about the main goal of the annual climate expedition of the Russian Ecological Society in 2022, assessing the consequences of climate change for the economy and population of Yakutia and developing proposals for adapting to these consequences, and also described the main directions and stages of its implementation and research results.
Alexander Ginzburg made a presentation on climate catastrophes and shared his experience of participating in the Climate Expedition project in Yakutia.
Raya Bekmurzaeva in the speech “Carbon polygon of Kadyrov Chechen State University: functioning and monitoring” presented a project on the protection and reproduction of forests, aimed at reducing emissions and increasing the absorption of greenhouse gases, described the stages of its implementation and effectiveness.
Alexander Knyazev, Deputy Chair of the Voronezh Branch of the REO, Director of ANO New Ecosystem talked about the environmental projects implemented by the branch in the Voronezh Region. He attracted the attention of students to the “EcoPark” urban environmental education project, which was implemented in the region with the information support of the Russian Ecological Society, Public Councils of the Department of Ecology and the Union of Photo Artists of Russia.
Alexandra Burtseva, coordinator of the regional department of environmental volunteers “Do it!”, head of the volunteer centre of VSU “Gravity” highlighted the work of the volunteers of “Do it!” and focused on helping wild animals. He also invited students to participate in the unique eco-quest "Clean Games".
The students showed an interest in becoming members of the Voronezh branch of the REO and the regional branch of the volunteer centre “Do it!” – be involved in environmental activities.
The participants of the lecture will interact again in the future.
