On 28 April, the 2nd round table discussion “Relevant Issues of Linguistic Inspection of Texts” dedicated to Professor Iosif Sternin’s 75th anniversary was held at the Faculty of Philology of VSU. A wide range of issues was discussed at the meeting related to various aspects of activities of a linguistic expert, from procedure violations in the course of linguistic inspection to specifics of using certain original methods.
Zhanna Gracheva, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, opened the meeting and talked about the relevance of forensic linguistics as a tool for text inspection for legal purposes as well as about Iosif Sternin’s contribution to the theory and practice of the linguistic inspection of texts. After the welcoming speech, Professor Marina Sternina, DSc in Philology, presented her report “Main areas of Iosif Sternin’s linguistic research”.
The main speakers were the head of the Centre for the Study of Lying and Human Behaviour Alexandra Lapshina, VSU Professors Inna Merkulova and Marina Novichikhina, VSU Associate Professors Maria Salomatina and Olga Shvetsova, assistant expert of the Centre for Forensic Examination of the International Academy for the Study of Lying (Moscow) Veronika Salkova, research supervisor of the Centre for Forensic Examination of the International Academy for the Study of Lying Vadim Chelpanov, lawyer Sergey Shepelevich, and students of the Faculty of Philology Anna Gatilova and Kirill Shelkunov.
Consultants of the Department of Legal and Linguistic Expertise of the Legal Department of the Voronezh Regional Duma Marina Grebennikova and Elena Ryzhkova, VSU lecturer Nadezhda Akovantseva, Assistant to the Rector for organisational and educational work of the Voronezh Institute of High Technologies Ekaterina Kushnina, VSU Associate Professors Mariana Rosenfeld and Alexandra Rudakova, assistant to the expert of the Centre for Forensic Examinations of the International Academy for the Study of Lying Ilya Kozlitin, and students from VSU also took part in the discussion.
The multi-authored monograph “Linguistic inspection in the works of the Voronezh Association of Linguistic Experts” was presented during the round table discussion. It was dedicated to the anniversary of the founder of the Voronezh Association of Linguistic Experts Iosif Sternin and reflects the main research results of the members of the association. The monograph includes the articles of the association that members published in scientific journals and collections of articles, conference materials, as well as articles that were not published previously.
