On 3 May, a municipal patriotic event dedicated to the 78th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held in the VSU concert hall. It was organised by the Institute of International Education of VSU. Students, employees, and teachers from the Institute of International Education, as well as performance groups from Zhukovsky and Gagarin Air Force Academy, Voronezh Law College, the Khokhol lyceum, VSU Academic Choir, and Izhogin Chapel Choir took part in the event.
Russian and international students presented literary and music performances. They recited poems and sang songs about war in different languages. A documentary film from the personal collection of one of the institute’s employees was shown during the event. It was interesting and surprising for the students to watch the interview with the architect A.G. Buzov (who designed the memorial complex the Monument of Glory that VSU students see every day on their way to the university) and learn more about Vladimir Eitingon, who was not only the dean of the Faculty of Economics but also fought in the war. They paid tribute to the memory of those fallen in the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence. At the end everyone sang the song “The Day of Victory”.
“There is no doubt that such events help to develop universal human values and bring together people of different religions, races, and generations. The issues of being proud for your country and respecting its history have become especially relevant today,” said Natalia Vella, Deputy Director for Extra-Curricular Activities of the Institute of International Education.
