The staff and students from the Institute of International Education of VSU went on guided tours of military glory places dedicated to the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Victory Day began at the memorial complex the Monument of Glory which is a mass grave of the Soviet Army soldiers who died fighting for Voronezh during the Great Patriotic War in 1942–1943. International students enjoyed watching the change of the honour guard near the Eternal Flame.
Then the students went to see the commemorative plaque dedicated to the General Alexander Lizyukov, the Hero of the Soviet Union, who led the 5th tank army of the Voronezh front during the war. After that, international students laid flowers at the memorial complex and met and talked with Voronezh veterans. On Prospect Revolutsii they welcomed with applause an amazing column of automobiles which consisted of a great number of cars of different makes. Russian flags and Victory banners were waving from car windows and military songs could be heard.
“The 9th of May is not just the day when Russia celebrates the victory over Nazism. It is the day of remembrance. We remember those who gave their lives protecting their country. I am really proud of the heroic deeds of my ancestors and I believe that the main conclusion that we can and should make is as follows: people of a country who come together are a great and indestructible force,” said Natalia Vella, Deputy Director for Extra-Curricular Activities of the Institute of International Education.
