On 13 May, staff and students of the International Education Institute of VSU visited the ship museum Goto Predestiantia, which is a replica of the first Russian sailing battleship.
Students from Ecuador, Syria, Morocco, Zambia, Bolivia, Senegal, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Indonesia, and Somalia could see the captain’s cabin and the gun-deck, as well as the exhibition in the hold of the ship. They also enjoyed wax sculptures. For example, seeing the sculpture of Peter I in the captain’s cabin, they could imagine the Russian emperor sailing.
The exhibition displays about 800 historic items, including traditional clothes and other artefacts of the 18th century: coins, weapons, kitchenware, etc. The students were amazed by the weight of the plates: for the metal plates and cups not to fall down during motions, they had to weight at list half a kilo.
After the ship, students also visited the Uspenskaya Church, which saw the shipbuilding process of the late 17th – early 18th century. There is a legend that Peter I himself was a choirboy once in this church. Since then, the church is believed to be the patron of shipbuilders and sailors.
“I’m glad I’m studying in Voronezh. It’s a very beautiful city. There is a lot to see here. Today’s trip is just another example. I’ve never seen such a museum before”, said Eduardo Roberto Silva Melo, a student from Bolivia.
