On 16 May, an international school of cultural studies “Dialogues between cultures in a global world” opened at VSU. At the opening ceremony, VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky read an address by Alexander Gusev, the Governor of the Voronezh Region. The governor pointed out that projects like “Dialogues between cultures in a global world” are of greatest importance. He also thanked international participants and stressed that “the wisdom and aesthetics of literature and art can help to resolve differences”.
In his own speech the rector also dwelled on the idea.
“It is culture that plays a special role in resolving any differences and conflicts. Under the current social conditions, our literature and culture, their heritage, need to be involved in the global humanitarian environment as much as possible”, said Dmitry Endovitsky.
In her address to students, Zhanna Gracheva, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, stressed that literary scholars and cultural leaders are to preserve cultural dialogue and mutual respect.
The participants of the school are 30 students from humanities faculties of VSU, Yanka Kuala Grodno State University, and Masherov Vitebsk State University. The experts teaching at the school are prominent philologists and literary scholars from Voronezh State University, Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow State University, Chelyabinsk State University, Grodno State University, and Vitebsk State University.
The school’s programme includes lectures, master classes, round table discussions, and open discussion. The school ends on 19 May, when students are to present their own projects.
