Between 24 and 28 May, the International festival of sports programming “Global code” was held in Grozny. The festival was participated in by over 300 students from Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Mali, Oman, Palestine, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and South Ossetia. The competition was organised by the Russian Federation of Sports Programming in two disciplines: algorithmic programming and product programming. The partners of the festival were the A. Kadyrov Regional Public Fund, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of the Chechen Republic, Chechen State University, and Grozny State Oil Technical University. The prize fund of the competition was 3.5 million roubles.

The Voronezh Region was represented by a team of students of the Faculty of Computer Sciences. Nikita Berezhnov, Maxim Novotochinov, and Yulia Shishko took part in the algorithmic programming competition on the first day of the festival. The task was to solve 12 problems in five hours. For each problem the participant were to design an effective algorithm and implement it as a programme using any programming language.

The VSU team solved 10 problems and took second place. The first place went to the team from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The team from ITMO University took third place and the team from MISIS University took fourth place.

The competition in product programming was held on the second day of the festival. This time VSU team included two more members: Alexander Antonov and Nikita Morozov. The competitors had two days to develop a sales platform for farmers, where they could post information about their products. The solution also had to include such options as online shopping, feedback, etc. The competing teams also had to present their project in front of the jury and the audience. The competition was very tight. Most teams worked overnight to be able to implement a larger number of functions, although they did not even know if they would make it to the final.

As a result, the students of the Faculty of Computer Sciences took another second place. The team from the Chechen Republic took first place, and teams from Dagestan and Tatarstan took third place.

The VSU team performed well in two different disciplines. They were the only team who became prize-winners in both competitions.

The prizes were awarded by Maxim Parshin, Presidents of the Federation of Sports Programming and Deputy Minister of digital development. The prize for each place was 500 thousand roubles. So, besides the medals, the students of the Faculty of Computer Sciences won 1 million roubles.

“The Russian Federation was the first country in the world to recognise sports programming as a sports discipline. This is not a coincidence. Russian programmers are the best in the world. The results our students demonstrate the quality of education at the faculty at even the largest competitions. Modern information technologies are developing rapidly. The existing technologies get more complicated, and new ones appear. This is why we have to upgrade our education programmes all the time. The faculty also pays special attention to talented students. Dmitry Solomatin, a senior lecturer and a leading specialist at Informsvyaz, trains our teams to take part in and win various competitions”, said Alexander Krylovetsky, the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Sciences.
