On 23 May, a series of online lectures by Surf employees were held in collaboration with the Department of Programming and Information Technologies of the Faculty of Computer Sciences of VSU. The company has been developing mobile applications for business for 12 years. It is one of the top 10 mobile developers in Russia.

The company’s representatives gave lectures to the students to entertain them before the upcoming session, to share the best practices from real projects, as well as to inform them about summer schools starting in July.

The students were addressed by the company’s employees. Artyom Pustovoy, a developer, delivered a report on “Neural Networks and Android: How to Develop and Use Them in Android Applications”, while Maksim Naumov, a business analyst, delivered a report on “How to Write Terms of Reference for Frontend and Backend Applications”. Vladislav Klimov, an iOS developer, spoke on “Swift UI: Architectural Aspects of Implementation in iOS Development”, and Pavel Zhdanov, a QA-engineer, presented the report “Testing Fundamentals: How We Do It in Surf”.

The lectures were attended by about 40 people: students of different years and programmes.

“I was amazed by the enthusiasm of the students, they asked a lot of questions. The questions about the ChatGPT and product management were particularly notable. I am looking forward to meeting them again at the Surf summer school,” commented Maxim Naumov.

“It was my first lecture as a speaker. And it was 8 am! There were not very many people, but they asked questions actively and we had a good discussion,” said Artyom Pustovoy.

“VSU students are among our favourite audiences. They are always eager to learn about interesting technologies, new solutions, and challenges. It’s been a long time since we’ve interacted with students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, so we were glad to have the opportunity to address the faculty, albeit online, to remind them of ourselves, to tell them something interesting and useful,” commented Pavel Lobanov, marketing manager at Surf.

“Surf always has very exciting and insightful lectures. I especially enjoy the original style of their presentation slides. Memes keep you from getting bored and boost your interest,” said Daniil Zmaev, a third year student of the Faculty of Computer Sciences.

“We widely use the format of guest lectures, which allows companies and students to get to know each other better. In addition, it is an opportunity for our students to gain practical knowledge. We have a long history of co-operation with Surf, and we look forward to its fruitful continuation,” noted Alexander Krylovetsky, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Sciences.
