Students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of VSU, Elizaveta Kolganova (2nd year), Mikhail Omelchenko (2nd year), Danil Pupykin (1st year), and Alexander Baklashov (1st year master’s degree), took part in the international information technology contest IT-Planet 2023. The team of students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics took first place and became the winner of the contest.

The students participated in the section “Robbofactory – CONCEPT” and presented their device called Prosthetics Scanner. The project was not only awarded with first place in the contest. There are also prospects for further development of a working device. The team is going to participate again next year, but in a different section, “Robbofactory – SOLUTION”, in order to present a device that is ready to be used.

“When we just decided to apply for the contest, we couldn’t even imagine that we would be able to pass the qualifying stage and then get to the finals and win first place. I am grateful to each member of the team for their contribution to this project. I think it was the beginning of something big. I would like to thank my faculty and lecturers who helped with the organisation. Thanks to the knowledge they gave us we managed to win this contest,” said Elizaveta Kolganova, the captain of the team.

“The idea of the contest combines innovation and creativity as well as, of course, the fundamental character of science an education. It is a great example of how the knowledge received since the first years at the faculty can be transformed into solving real challenges,” said Alexander Yakovlev, team supervisor and associate professor of the Department of Mechanics and Computer Modelling at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics.

“Our students did great at such a prestigious contest. It’s good to see that the team includes students of different years, from the first year of bachelor’s degree to the first year of master’s degree. The results is a mix of youth and experience, ardour and concept. We congratulate the team on their victory!” said Sergey Medvedev, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics.
