On 10 July, VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky granted letters of acknowledgement to students who took part in the scientific and educational interfaculty project “The Afro-Eurasian Odyssey of Russian physicist Nikolay Nifontov”. Alexey Safonov, a fourth year student from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, and Polina Vasilieva, a first year master’s degree student from the Faculty of Chemistry, were praised for their translation of archival materials from French into Russian.
Gleb Bulavin, a second year student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, and Alexander Ushakov, a third year student from the same faculty, translated archival materials on microelectronics from French into Russian. Dunya Nassikh, a first year student from the Faculty of Journalism, was in charge of promotional activities.
All of them actively participated in organising and holding the workshop dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Nikolay Nifontov, which was held on 7 June.
The letters were awarded by Dmitry Zhukalin, Head of the Department of Innovations, Associate Professor at the Department of Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics.
“Associate Professors from the Department of French Philology Elena Kashkina and Nina Cherepkova have been running this project for three years now. Over 100 students from all of the faculties of the university have taken part in the project. This year is also the Year of the Teacher and Mentor, which is of a great importance.
Translation of archival materials from French into Russian and their analysis help our students to develop professional competences and make them think about the life of a person who lived and worked at a time of great changes, when the previously existing states disintegrated and new ones appeared. With his ideas and discoveries in the field of microelectronics and neural networks, he was 60–70 years ahead of his time. He was a pioneer of microelectronics at VSU, in Voronezh, and in the whole USSR”, said Dmitry Zhukalin.
Professor Elena Alekseeva, Head of the Department of French Philology, told the students about the previous, current, and prospective joint projects run by the Department of French Philology and French-speaking countries of North Africa. She also encouraged students to keep learning French while acquiring professional competences.
Nina Cherepkova, Associate Professor at the Department of French Philology, thanked the participants of the project and praised them for their interest and eagerness. The students, in turn, talked about their positive experience, new knowledge and ideas.
Other students who also received letters of acknowledgement from the rector for translating archival materials from French into Russian within the scientific and educational interfaculty project “The Afro-Eurasian Odyssey of Russian physicist Nikolai Nifontov” were graduates of the Department of French Philology Daria Danko, Uliana Kartashova, and Elizaveta Pyleva.
Maria Ignatova, Daria Kovaleva, Maria Koltunova, Polina Matyushina, Anastasia Tonkokh, and Gleb Chalin, graduates of the programme “Foreign Regional Studies” at the Faculty of International Relations, were awarded letters of acknowledgement from the rector for using their professional expertise and analytical competences in the scientific and educational interfaculty project “The Afro-Eurasian Odyssey of Russian physicist Nikolay Nifontov”. Anastasia Karpova, Vladlena Kudryashova, and Valeria Chertkova were awarded letters of acknowledgement from the rector for their active participation in the workshop held on 7 June 2023. They received the letters together with their bachelor’s degree diplomas.
Other awardees included fourth year students from the Faculty Romance and Germanic Philology Alina Bessmertnaya, Anastasia Erofeeva, Viktoria Myzgina, Elizaveta Suslova, Alina Chuprunova, and Ekaterina Shustova; students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics Yadviga Orlovskaya (first year), Grigory Kuznetsov, and Ilia Shulenin (second year); a first year student from the Faculty of Chemistry Alexandra Khaustova; a second year student from the Faculty of Pharmaceutics Serafima Kastryuleva, and first year students from the Faculty of Journalism Sofia Evdokimova and Sofia Nesterova.
