While other students are taking their last exams and are getting ready to enjoy their holidays, the student sports club “Khitschnye Bobry” keeps working. At the end of June and beginning of July the club’s members won a competition between partner universities of Rosatom, the League of Legends cybersports team became a prize-winner of an international contest, and the Valorant team held their first international warm-up game with the team from the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (Portugal).

On 24 June, the closing ceremony of the student Summer Spartakiad for the representatives of the nuclear energy industry, manufacturing industry, and science “Atomiada 2023” was held in Nizhny Novgorod. The women’s team of the students’ sport club “Khitschnye Bobry” won 1st place, together with everyone’s admiration for their beauty, leaving other teams far behind.

The team was coached by Mikhail Pchelnikov, a student from the Faculty of Chemistry.

“The tournament was very well organised. Of course, there were some challenges, but our team coped really well. I can say that other teams were also quite good. A lot of their members are professional sportsmen and members of strong student teams. As for our team, I believe they won primarily thanks to their strong character, skills, and the will to win. The experience they had gained in Voronezh also played a great role. Few people know that 3х3 and 5х5 basketball are very different. Basketball is very popular in our region. There are a lot of tournaments and our men’s and women’s teams usually take part in them. This is why we are going to get stronger and stronger. We will prove it by taking part in various basketball tournaments all over the country!”, said Mikhail Pchelnikov.

Last week, an international cybersports competition, Esports Summer Festival, was held. The team representing Voronezh State University demonstrated a very decent performance. The tournament was organised by the E-sports Medical Association whose objective is to promote and develop cybersports.

Our team demonstrated a high level of skill and professionalism and took 2nd place.

Last week saw another event. Timur Krutskikh, a first year master’s degree student and the all-time head of the cybersport division at the Student Sports Club, organised the first cybersports warm-up game between students from VSU and the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (Portugal).

“I’m delighted to work with our team. Every time they win a competition it shows that what we are doing is not in vain. They have demonstrated that they can organise events at various levels and they are, of course, excellent sportsmen. I would especially like to praise the work of Mikhail Pchelnikov and Timur Krutskikh. Mikhail is both a very experienced player and a referee. This time he tried out a new role, the role of the coach of our women’s team, and helped Voronezh State University to win another cup. When Timur said that he was moving to Portugal, I was very glad for him. I'm glad that students from our faculty and members of our club get such opportunities. But at the same time, I felt afraid for our cybersports division. Fortunately, all the processes are very well organised and Timur is so devoted that even being thousands of kilometres away from Voronezh he manages to organise various events, and at a very high level. I’m glad to be working with such wonderful and enthusiastic young people. I wonder what other victories we are going to see this summer!”, said Igor Kotok, specialist from the Department of Student Affairs of VSU.
