This week three engineers from DSR Corporation, Sergey Pavlenok, Nikolay Paukov, and Dmitry Donskikh, received their master’s degree diplomas at the Faculty of Computer Sciences of VSU. Their personal experience demonstrated that it is quite possible to combine work with studies. They told us about their work for the company.
Sergey Pavlenok first studied at the training centre of DSR Corporation. There he learned about iOS application development. This is what he is doing now.
“I joined the company and enrolled on the master’s degree programme practically at the same time. I’m a software engineer, I develop mobile applications (cross-platform and iOS applications). I started as a junior and then I was promoted to being a middle developer. The beginning was very easy for me, because my colleagues were always there to answer my questions. They gave valuable advice and were very friendly and supportive. I’m glad that I joined this particular company.”
Nikolay Paukov developed an interest in programming when he was a schoolboy. Back then he already knew he wanted to work in this field. When he was a second year bachelor’s degree student, Nikolay enrolled at the DSR Corporation training centre and after completing the course joined the company, which meant he had to combine work with studies.
“I think it was during my second year. I saw an advert about a course in embedded systems programming by DSR and decided to enrol. I passed the entrance test, then the classes started, and I really liked it. After completing the course, I was invited to a job interview. It went well and I got the job.”
Nikolay is a software engineer now. He is working on the design of devices with microcontrollers and wireless networks. He says that it was not difficult to combine work with studying at both bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes due to flexible working hours.
Dmitry Donskikh, like many, started as a junior developer. He also joined the company after studying at the DSR Corporation training centre and a successful job interview. Similar to his colleagues, he quickly adjusted to the work process.
“When I was hired, the pandemic restrictions were still there, so I worked from home. However, the university was already getting back to normal, so I had some offline classes. So, I went to university in the morning, and then worked from home in the afternoon. It wasn’t difficult as the company allows flexible working hours. Of course, as long as it didn't harm the project. It was even good that I was available in the afternoons, because I could communicate more with the clients who lived in different time zones.”
Unlike his colleagues, Dmitry decided to continue with his studies and enrolled on a PhD programme.
“I want to make a career at the company and enhance my professional skills. For example, I want to be able to be in charge of a team of developers. I’m interested in the Internet of Things (the idea that devices and objects that are not connected to the internet can communicate with each other and exchange information) and automation. I would also like to contribute to science.”
All three graduates are grateful to VSU for their knowledge, valuable experience, and great opportunities.
“I’m grateful to VSU and the Faculty of Computer Sciences in particular for a really good comprehensive education and some experience with practical tasks. I have come all the way from being a schoolboy who was not sure if he wanted to work in IT to being a man who can’t imagine working in any other field. I am fond of my job. I think I was lucky, when I chose the university and the faculty, and lucky to get my job. I have no regrets and I hope a lot of my colleagues can say the same”, said Sergey Pavlenok.
“I am very grateful to the university for my education. I appreciate all the opportunities the university gave me, and all the support and effort by our teachers and other staff members. Thanks to their professionalism and enthusiasm I got both academic knowledge and skills that I can use in my work”, said Dmitry Donskikh.
“While studying at university I could take part in international conferences and programming competitions, and visit a lot of cities. It really helped me in my professional growth”, said Nikolay Paukov.
“We congratulate them on this important achievement! They are very talented and always seek opportunities for personal and professional growth. Students often join our team after completing a course at our training centre and after their summer internships. We realise that it is a great pressure, which requires self-discipline and extra effort. So, we are always there to support them”, commented at the Press Centre of DSR Corporation.
DSR Corporation is a software developer employing over 230 engineers. It entered the software market in 1998. The company focuses on web and mobile development, blockchain, digital media, wireless technologies, Internet of Things solutions, computer vision, and machine learning. The DSR training centre was opened at VSU over 10 years ago. It has trained over 1500 young engineers.
